How much is the fine? What other reprecussions may follow if you don't mount the plate? How picky are your Local POs? In MD it's something like $50 fine (i think) and i know lots of the local VW folks opt out of mounting it.

Usually, if you get pulled over, you'll get slapped with the additional fine for not having the plate, but that's all. It depends on the factors above as well as how much you don't want it. I'd say, put in an anonymous call to the PD and see what the fine is and take it from there. They can't whip out the drill and mount the damn thing on your bumper, they can only ticket you. I'll do it as soon as I get home. In NY they do ticket you if your frame covers any letters or numbers including the state name and slogan. They don't always do but they can! Especialy if they have nothing to do that day (or hour).

I'm thinking of going to an auto parts store and getting a generic plate-mount/holder and attaching that to the lower grille with nylon ties (from the back) and then screwing the plate onto that.
